... and has apparently decided that being the Captain IS in fact too much pressure, and relinquished his C today. His reasons have only been speculated on thus far, and a replacement has yet to be named, but I'm going to start a petition for Bieksa.
I like Bieksa, but it is hard to believe that he will be captain. The canucks need to add a top 6 forward, and have 6 defenceman making over $3million and are at or over the cap. Bieksa is the only top D without a no-trade clause, making him the easiest to move. Just as likely to give Hamhuis the C.
Oh there's no WAY that Bieksa will be given the C - I just irrationally love him (see post below). My actual guess is that it will controversially go to one of the Sedins, or to Kesler.
Won't go to Kesler. He is too much of a warrior, with a penchant for avoiding media after a tough loss and saying the wrong thing when frustrated. Exactly the kind of guy you want on your team, in a leadership position, but not captain. Either of the Sedins would make great captains, the problem is which one? And does it matter? Make em both captains, 42 games each.
